This trimester, our CreativeArts partners are: the YMCA and Pittsburgh Musical Theater
The YMCA will be focused this trimester on the YMCA’s Fit for Life program allowing students in kindergarten through 8th grade to learn fitness, team building, and other physical activities which encourage lifelong healthy living. Students will be challenged with their classmates to complete cooperative games as well as team building activities that promote respect, grit and perseverance. Physical education instructor Eric Miles is currently in his first year teaching with the Propel Charter Schools.
The YMCA of Pittsburgh Fit for Life Physical Education program is designed to increase the awareness, understanding, and participation of a sound physical education program that is both safe and fun. Instructor, Pam Bryant’s lesson plans meet the Pennsylvania Department of Education Health, Safety and Physical Education Standards. The purpose of the program is to assist students in developing lifelong skills through participating in sports. Cooperation, effort and a positive attitude are some of the concepts students will be encouraged to achieve.
Pittsburgh Musical Theater (PMT) will be focus on the three different aspects of musical theater this trimester. Teaching artists Nicole Uram and Nina Dancehenko guide the students through a fundamental understanding of singing, dancing, and acting. They teach them an understanding of each so that they can learn new aspects of art that combine together to create one total performance opportunity. This year we are focusing on History. That being a broad term, we are touching upon U.S History and World History through musicals, as well as artists in history who have had musicals made about them or their music. PMT combines academics and arts to promote learning as well as show that arts and academics can be used in all facets of life.
Propel School’s enduring commitment to provide quality arts education enables students to discover new talents and skills, become innovative and creative thinkers, and build self-confidence.
Propel empowers students to become academically and artistically accomplished young men and women who are poised, curious, and disciplined. By offering focused learning in the arts, Propel not only gives children something to dream about… but a method to get there.
