How do I apply to Propel?
Families may apply for the open lottery at schoolmint.net from October 6 to December 31. The lottery drawing will be in January. Families that apply after December 31 will be placed on the waitlist.
How will students be matched to schools?
After the application closes, a lottery will be conducted through automated computer software (SchoolMint) for each Propel School in January. Families will be notified via SchoolMint if a space has been confirmed or they may log in and view their place on the waiting list.
What if my child is on the waitlist for the 2021-2022 school year?
If your child is not contacted this school year, you must apply again using the SchoolMint system if you would like to be considered for the 2021-2022 school year.
When is the deadline to apply for the 2021-2022 school year?
The deadline for the open lottery period is December 31, 2020. Families may apply after December 31 and will be placed on the waitlist.
When will I find out if my child is accepted?
Applicants will receive an email via the SchoolMint system in January with details of the date, time and location to complete the enrollment process as well as documents that will be required.
How old does my child have to be to attend?
Potential kindergarten students must be 5 years of age by September 1 of the year they propose to begin school. No exceptions will be made to this rule.
How much does it cost to apply or attend the school?
There is no application fee or cost to attend. Propel schools are free, public schools.
Do you take students with special needs and/or those who have an IEP?
Yes, we are proud to serve a large population of students with special needs.
What are your school hours? How long is the school day?
Generally, school hours are 8:30 - 3:30 but may varying at the high school level.
Is there an afterschool program?
Yes, our schools offer an afterschool program. Programs vary by school but all include snacks and/or dinner as well as academic enrichment opportunities. For specific information please call 412-325-7305, ext. 1310.
Do you provide busing or transportation?
Bus transportation, in most cases, is provided by the resident school district in which you live. You must live within a 10 mile radius of the school, and within a bussing school district to receive transportation from your resident school district. If you reside in a district that is not a bussing school district the family is responsible for providing transportation.
How many students are in each classroom?
The number of students in each classroom will vary depending on the grade. Kindergarten classes generally have 20 students and increase with grade level to about 25.
When is the first day of school?
Generally, the school year begins mid-August. Please do not schedule any vacations or summer camp in August so that your child does not miss school.
Do parents have to pay for lunch?
Students may be eligible for free or reduced breakfast and/or lunch. If you believe your child may be eligible, Propel will be searching a state database for qualification and will be sending an application home at the start of the school year.
Do the students wear uniforms to school? Do I have to pay for them?
Yes, Propel has a uniform student dress code. All students are expected to be properly dressed in the school uniform every day. All parents and guardians are expected to support their children by ensuring that students are properly dressed when they leave for school each morning.
What if my child has a sibling that already is attending Propel?
The names of all siblings that applied during open enrollment will be prioritizes first in the lottery.
If my child is currently attending Propel, do we need to reapply each year?
Families will need to complete an intent to return form at the end of the current school year. If your child is in Grade 8, they will need to apply during the open enrollment period to select which Propel high school they would like to attend.
What if my contact information changes?
If your contact information changes prior to being offered a space, families will need to log in to their SchoolMint account and may update the information at any time. If your information changes after you have secured a spot but before the school year begins, please contact the enrollment team. If your information changes once the school year has began, please contact the administrative assistant at the school to complete a change of address form.
