Representatives from Propel Homestead’s 21St Century CLCC Afterschool Program recently accepted the “Afterschool Champion Award.” During the “Extra Learning Opportunities” Conference in Harrisburg on March 5, site coordinator Deanna Dugan, along with Liz Ward accepted this state-wide award. Congratulations to Deanna, Liz, Shawnda Hopkins and Matthew Farward for their outstanding work at the Homestead site. Many thanks to Rosemary Anderson, Director of Afterschool Programs and Amy Burrows, Assistant Director of Afterschool Programs for their efforts to provide high-quality programming for out of school hours.
For the past 26 years, the Laurel Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America has celebrated service to the community by honoring local organizations and volunteers.This year, Propel is proud to be an honoree! Propel’s Afterschool Program has offered “Scoutreach” at our sites for the past 6 years. This program allows our students in grades 1 – 5 to explore character building, physical fitness, life skills and outdoor skills during the extended school day.
Propel Schools is the proud recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation. This funding will be used by the Afterschool Program for fitness and nutrition programs. Movement/exercise and healthy eating will enhance the extended day activities at four Propel locations. The “Pittsburgh Urban Teaching Corps” seeks applicants for their inaugural class. Chatham University and Propel Schools offer this 3 year program that will allow qualified candidates (teaching degree NOT required!) to receive a FREE Masters degree in teaching, real-world classroom experience and potential employment with Propel Schools.
