Student photoPropel believes that public schools can prepare all students for success in life, regardless of their circumstances. Our results prove that it is possible. Over the past seven years, Propel Schools has been fortunate to have the support of philanthropic partners who believe in our vision of being a catalyst for the transformation of public education in Southwestern Pennsylvania so that all children have access to high performing public schools. Our funders have included The Heinz Endowments, The Grable Foundation, DSF Charitable Foundation, The Benter Foundation and others.

Now, as we strive to open new schools and double the number of children that we serve, philanthropic support continues to be critical to expanding Propel's impact. We need a diverse funding base to reach the 2,000 families on our waiting lists, who are eager to enroll their children in a Propel school. Propel is ready to meet the demand for new schools, and your support can make this possible!

Give to Propel Through the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC)

Propel Schools is an approved Educational Improvement Organization under the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) (www.newpa.com). You may want to speak to your accountant to see if your business qualifies.

What is EITC?
Enacted in 2001, the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) provides companies with a 75% tax credit for donations to a non-profit scholarship or educational improvement organization. The tax credit increases to 90% if the company commits to making the same donations for two consecutive years. A business paying taxes in Pennsylvania can receive up to $300,000 in tax credits annually. More importantly, the EITC provides children and families with a choice in their education and a chance in life.

Who can make a gift?
Eligible corporations. If a corporation pays any of the following corporate taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the EITC program allows it to make a gift to Propel Schools instead:
  • Corporate Net Income Tax
  • Capital Stock Franchise Tax
  • Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax
  • Title Insurance Companies Shares Tax
  • Insurance Premiums Tax
  • Mutual Thrift Institution Tax

Where do I get an application?
The application form is available through the Department of Community and Economic Development at 717-787-7120 or at www.newpa.com. Select EITC Business Guidelines for further information and the application form.

When do I submit the application?
Applications may be received on by the PA EITC Office beginning July 1, 2010. Because EITCs will be made available on a first-come, first-served, basis it is important that your application is delivered on July 1. (Early applications arriving at the PA EITC office will be returned to sender for re-application. Late applications are sometimes denied due to lack of funds.).
