FlyBrix with Max Morgan at Braddock Hills High School’s Engineering class reached for the sky as they built drones out of legos. Kits from FlyBrix allowed students to design their own flying machines. The students explored innovative ways drones are used in various industries, demonstrated the principles of flight, programmed the flight-control boards, and then iterated their designs based on test flights. This was a perfect hands-on activity for “building” aerospace engineering knowledge. 10th Grader Shane Zigarovich commented, “I didn’t even mind that my drone kept crashing because it was so much fun to rebuild it.” The students worked collaboratively to create a video that documented their efforts. Below is there short documentary that they produced themselves, and well worth watching! Here’s some feedback from Max himself upon reflection of the project: “These engineering students certainly have heart! They worked so hard to get some flight footage in time for the Bits and Bytes issue, but today was the deadline, so the documentary doesn’t quite have the happy ending we were hoping for (they are going to keep trying though!). They did get really good at rebuilding the drones each time they crashed and had an absolute blast doing it! Its all about the process. Thank you so much for making these happen for us!”. You are very welcome Max, thank you for taking the time to prepare your students for the future!
