This Fall was busy busy busy! Students across all of our schools were engaged in hands-on project based learning and community events! Students at Propel Montour Middle School extended their learning from a SLB Radio Broadcasting, a Creative Arts class, to their science class with Mr. Pippens. Mr. Pippens created an opportunity for students by allowing them to produce broadcasts as a way to showcase what they learned from the unit. At Propel Braddock Hills Middle, 7th grade students in Studio 4C classroom completed an end of unit project. The project centered around a student created Clue board game. The project was used to showcase their learning around the“Age of Exploration and Colonialism in the New World. They documented eras of systemic oppression in America through a time-traveler’s social media feed. As well as used 3D-printing chess pieces representative of the workers and industrialists in the American industrial revolution to consider the impacts of an upcoming technological revolution.Last, but not least, 3rd grade students at Propel Northside and Propel McKeesport utilized innovative technology to extend their learning of Rocks and Minerals. Using Virtual Reality and 4D Augmented Reality, students explored present day Egypt to study the limestone used to create the pyramids, investigate Gold and Sodium, as well as take a virtual field trip through a present day Gold Mine. We are looking forward to an eventful winter, full of even more innovative teaching and learning!
