Principal Brandon Whitfield at Propel McKeesport took his role of supporting 5th-grade science while their teacher is out on leave to a new level! Using Spheros, his students were able to explore their content focus of force and motion by directing the robots through obstacle courses and set challenges. Discovering how objects or terrain can alter the speed and force of a robot, students were able to draw conclusions about the content standards in a real-world situation. There was not a single student in both sections who were not fully engaged and attentive to teacher directions the entire time. At the end of the class periods, they were thankful and asked for more!
Also at Propel McKeesport, Ms. Naomi Cannon and Ms. Rena Fasone dedicated their time inside and outside of the classroom planning a month-long integration project that spanned across content within their second-grade classrooms. These two amazing educators planned this lesson all on their own. We applaud their dedication to making their teaching and learning more relevant and appealing to our young students! Here is a look at one of the major parts of the project, a STEM challenge to design their own bobsleds and mock sportscasting using iMovie! Watch the short video below to see all four heats and the medal ceremony brought to you by two very special 2nd grade students!
