West End Charter School Proposal Application Pulled
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Thursday, January 19, 2006
January 19, 2006 — A proposal to open a charter school in the city's West End was withdrawn during a public hearing Wednesday before the Pittsburgh Public Schools board.
Propel Schools, which has opened charter schools in Homestead, McKeesport and Turtle Creek, pulled its application. Officials said they wanted to focus attention on their plan to open a charter school in the Robinson area, which is in the Montour School District.
Jeremy Resnick, Propel's executive director, also said the organization did not want to embark on opening a charter school in Pittsburgh at a time when the school district plans to close several schools in the neighborhoods Propel officials had been considering.
