Braddock Hills High School
Propel Braddock Hills High School strives to create a community where students are prepared to become active and engaged citizens through authentic and compelling learning experiences. College and career exploration, along with character building, are activities our students are engaged in on a daily basis. We are dedicated to social justice and creating a positive change in the education landscape of Pittsburgh and beyond. Our school values student voice and looks to build student leaders through a number of initiatives that not only reflect the world that our students see, but expand their perspectives on both academic and social issues.
Our Commitments:
BHHS is Committed to sustaining a culture where every individual has authentic voice and thrives, seeing our students make significant, solid academic gains through high-quality instruction and engagement strategies that teachers continually refine and improve, and building partnerships and fostering advocacy and outreach to our community locally and globally.
Our Community Values:
As important as high academic standards for our students are, Propel Braddock Hills High School’s focus is also on those attributes that will ensure the development of young adults who are academically and intellectually proficient, prepared for college, active democratic citizens, lifelong learners, and enjoy successful and fulfilling adult lives. We call these attributes the Community Values.
Our teachers integrate these skills and habits into all areas of instruction in a developmentally appropriate way. The social curriculum begins in CREW, which provides students with a foundation for skills needed after high school as well as a chance to explore post-secondary school plans. In keeping with the shared leadership model, the Community Values have been defined by the entire staff and the student body. We encourage parents to support the development of these skills and habits in their children by using the same language at home as is used at school. The five Community Values are: Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Dependable, and Empathetic.
PREPARED
Students will arrive to any responsibilities (school, work, etc) on time, dressed to meet requirements, and with the needed materials.“I can provide evidence of self-discipline and integrity through my decisions and actions in high school that contribute to my post-secondary plan.”
RESPECTFUL
Students will act in a manner that respects the voices of others, uses professional language, shows manners, and take constructive feedback in a way that show active listening.“I conduct myself in a manner that models self-respect, service to others, and caring for the learning community.”
INVOLVED
Curiosity, Adventure, Collaboration.“I am empowered to work cooperatively through challenging situations, as I develop new interests and seek new understandings through a variety of unique experiences.”
DEPENDABLE
Students will be a positive role model to others, be helpful to those in need, turn in work and assignments in a timely manner, and show integrity in their work.“I can demonstrate my reliability through my contributions to the school community, and explain how they reflect the school’s mission, my academic and career goals, and community commitment.”
EMPATHETIC
Compassion, Relationships.“I am intentional in my communication, showing compassion and embracing diversity as I work to build positive social skills.””
