This trimester, the theme of our Propel partnership is “Then & Now: The Movement(s)”, exploring The Civil Rights Movement with Jazz and The Black Lives Matter Movement with Hip Hop. Through this journey in dance, students learned about diversity, cultural appreciation, acceptance, and becoming conscientious citizens. We used academic integration to analyze dance and these two historical movements as inspiration for our culminating performance.
Formed in October of 2009, STAYCEE PEARL dance project (SPdp) exists to interpret and mirror culture and community, while experimenting with innovative conceptual possibilities. SPdp intends to participate in meaningful collaboration with artists, musicians, choreographers, educators and activist, and serve as the movement component to PearlArts: movement and sound.
