Meet the PPIW Team

Danielle Parson 
Senior Director of Community Affairs

Danielle Parson joined Propel Schools in October 2017. As Senior Director of Community Affairs, she works to ensure Propel maintains a healthy and collaborative relationship with all of the communities it serves. Before Propel, she served as the Director of Communications for ACHIEVA, a nonprofit serving individuals with disabilities and their families. Ms. Parson takes great interest in her community. She currently serves on the board for the Boys Scouts of America Laurel Highlands Council, working solely with scouts in under-served communities. Ms. Parson is a Chicago native and graduate of The University of Illinois’ College of Communications.


 

Caroline Barmen

Carrie Barmen is the Site Coordinator for Propel Northside's Community Wellness Center. She started with Propel Schools in 2016, helping to design and implement the Partners In Wellness Program, and transitioned to working in the Wellness Center when it opened in May 2018. She loves being a part of a growing center, helping scholars access needed resources, and developing new partnerships. She loves working on the North Side and collaborating with all the wonderful community members and organizations.  


 

Rachel Sonnet

Rachel Sonnet is Propel Hazelwood’s Community Wellness Site Coordinator. She started with Propel in the summer of 2019. Rachel graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor’s in Political Science and has focused her career on nonprofits serving children. She has enjoyed growing the wellness programming and providing resources and opportunities to the Hazelwood community. Rachel focuses on building partnerships and relationships between the school staff, scholars, Propel families, and the Hazelwood community.

 


 

Carrie Woodard, NCC, NCSC

Carrie Woodard has worked in a variety of schools and served scholars through various roles and titles. She has had experience as a middle school Social Studies teacher and high school counselor, which provided her with valuable insight into the way scholars learn and succeed. Her most recent experiences were serving as a high school counselor at Propel Braddock Hills High School and the College and Career Counselor at Propel Montour High School. Carrie earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Social Studies with a second major in History and earned a master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is passionate about the work that the Propel Partners in Wellness team does each and every day and looks forward to what the future holds for PPIW.


 

Kelly Hoffman, MS, BSL

Kelly Hoffman transitioned to Propel as the PPIW Project Coordinator in June 2021 after 3 years of providing SAP Liaison services to Propel Schools while working with our partner agency, UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Mon Yough.  She has previously worked in a variety of school-based settings providing mental health services for almost 10 years.  Kelly received her master’s degree in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and is also a Licensed Behavior Specialist.  Kelly has also previously worked in the community mental health field as a Child and Adolescent Service Coordinator. In her role with the Partners in Wellness team, she looks forward to supporting Propel scholars, families, and staff to diminish barriers to learning and make connections to valuable community resources.
