Through a rigorous process, Propel hires candidates who value diversity, social justice and want to work to help our scholars succeed. Hiring processes differ by position category. All new staff members take part in the Induction Program, a three-year program focused on developing staff based on personal needs. The Induction Program begins with an Immersion Week prior to the start of the school year. Over the course of the week, new staff members are provided with professional development on culture, curriculum, instruction and procedures of the Propel Schools system.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Current or pending relevant certification

  • Classroom teaching experience in an urban school setting

  • Passion for social justice

  • Ability to adjust instruction to meet learner needs

  • Strong background in instruction

  • A belief that all scholars should be held to high academic standards

  • Receptive to feedback

  • Pass necessary background checks

Teacher Recruitment/Hiring Process

  • Submit an application through ULTIPRO our online application system.

  • Selected applicants will be invited to submit a video interview.

  • If selected to proceed,  applicants will be asked to complete a 30-minute demonstration in front of scholars followed by an interview.

  • A hiring decision is made.

  • Current openings are filled immediately pending clearances and background check completion.

If you are identified as a candidate for the upcoming school year, you may be placed into the “hiring pool” and will receive communication that you have been recommended for hire. Being placed in the hiring pool does not guarantee a position with Propel Schools. Offers will depend on whether a position that matches your certification and demonstrated areas of strength becomes available.

Substitute Teacher
Propel Schools have limitless opportunities for passionate people to inspire, support, and position students for success. We are seeking professional individuals to substitute teach in our classrooms. Propel Schools employs its Substitute Teachers at $175 / day for Day to Day Substitutes. Long Term Substitutes working consistently within the same classroom for 45+ days earn a daily rate of $175. Choose to work at any of our 13 schools throughout Allegheny County. All applicants must have up-to-date clearances and hold at least a bachelor’s degree to be eligible.
