Read Across Propel
Read Across Propel (RAP) is an exciting literacy program in all K-2 classrooms at Propel Schools. The program is a support system for creating access to books and helping readers as they grow. Research shows that vocabulary development and reading are directly related to school success, and at Propel Schools, we are committed to ensuring that all scholars become avid, successful readers.
How Does RAP Work?
RAP-issued bags, books, folders, and skill cards are sent home with scholars. Scholars are required to read two 15-minute reading steps each day. Home coaches sign RAP reading log sheets. Home coaches can be parents, guardians, grandparents, older siblings, neighbors, or daycare personnel. As a part of regular literacy instruction, scholars receive 30 minutes (2 steps) of independent reading in school. Educators will sign the log sheets for those steps completed at school.
Across our network of schools, we want our scholars to experience the fun and excitement of reading through RAP.
Watch RAP at work! During Propel Homestead parent-teacher conferences, a parent gets more information about her son's progress in the program, and he's one of the top readers in his school.
